Historic Markers – Old Fort Dade

OLD FORT DADE HISTORICAL MARKER. This marker, a bronze plaque mounted on stone, is located in the northeast corner of the intersection of Poinsettia Ave. and Ft. King Road (17th St.). The chain-enclosed monument is a short distance north of, and on the opposite side of the road from the readily recognizable Pasco High School grounds. Contrary to the statement on the marker, it is not actually the location of a fort. (See the Fort Dade marker.) Instead, it marks the location of the final encampment of Major Francis Langhorne Dade and his troops en route to their demise at the site of the “Dade Massacre” near Bushnell. (See the Dade Battlefield marker.)
