Saint Leo Government
Incorporated 1891
Residents voted to incorporate Saint Leo on February 24, 1891. The Florida Legislature passed an act to that effect on June 2, 1891, and Saint Leo became an incorporated city on July 4, 1891. The first elected mayor was Dr. Joseph Felix Corrigan, the attending physician of Saint Leo College – which had been established in 1889.
Saint Leo government consists of an elected city council of 5 members, each serving 2 year terms. The council appoints a mayor from their ranks to serve a 1 year term.
