HISTORY OF EDUCATION IN PASCO COUNTYMoore-Mickens Middle School In May 1970, the school board decided to merge all sixth and seventh grade students in the Dade City area into the Moore-Mickens School. The principal from 1970 to 1974 was O. K. Mickens. On May 21, 1974, the school board named Melvin Dennard as Principal of Moore-Mickens Middle School, succeeding O. K. Mickens. At this time, the school housed sixth and seventh grade students from the Dade City area and it was the only middle school in the county. In 1981 Dr. Robert Dellinger became Principal. In 1983 George Avadikian became Principal.  In 1986 the building was closed for renovation. In 1987 Moore-Mickens Adult Education Center opened in the same building. The name was later changed to Moore Mickens Education Center. Principals of this school were: 1987, Mrs. Greta Adams; 1995, Steven B. Cox; 2010, Rick Saylor; 2012, Jackson C. “Buff” Johnson Jr. Johnson retired at the end of the 2013-14 school year. He had earlier been principal at Stewart Middle School and Pasco High School. In June 2017 the site was expected to be leased to the Moore-Mickens Education and Vocational Center Inc., a non-profit coalition of civic, community and faith-based leaders. |
