The West Pasco Historical Society was founded in March of 1973. It originally consisted of four officers; President, Vice-President, Recording-Secretary, and Treasurer – plus five directors; three to be elected immediately, and two the following year. In May of 1973 an amended constitution was adopted that called for four initial directors. In 1975, the office of Second-Vice-President was added. This position was eliminated sometime after 2008. In March of 1981, the position of Corresponding-Secretary was added. In 2011, the position of Director-Emeritus was created to honor Dr. Rao Musunuru, who was appointed to fill that position (this was a non-voting position). There is also a Chairman-of-the-Board position which is always held by the past President.

It should be noted that it was customary in the early days for much business to be conducted at frequent regular membership meetings, and that members other than the Board of Directors could make motions and vote on issues affecting the Society.


The first meetings were typically held at the New Port Richey Library. Several Board of Director meetings in late 1974 were held at the Clearwater Federal Building.

In January of 1975, the Board decided that future meetings would be held at the First Federal Building, instead of the New Port Richey Library. However, some Board of Directors meetings were held at the home of President Julie Obenreder.

1975 January Mary Homer Vice-President Appointed as Vice-President by President Obenreder after the resignation of Mary Grogrian.
1975 April Glenn Dill Second-Vice-President A bylaw change created the position of Second-Vice-President, and new director Glen Dill was elected to that position.

In May of 1975, the First Federal Building had apparently became unavailable for meetings. The May 1975 meetings were again held at the New Port Richey Library. Beginning in October of 1975, the meetings were held at the home of Mrs. Mary Nofi, 1610 Massachusetts Avenue. And then in Janet Lewis’ office at the Library. At the end of 1975, it was decided that future meetings would be held at President Julie Obenreder’s home.

No meeting minutes or other records are available for the period 1978 and 1979. At some point during this period, the Board of Directors began having meetings at the New Port Richey Library again. This was probably because Janet Lewis was the librarian.

We have no records indicating where the installation ceremony was held.
Curiously, the Board minutes of March 2, 2005, says that Leon Flood resigned as President, and was replaced by Vice-President Adam Carozza. However, minutes from October and December, and January of 2006 contradict that statement. It appears that Leon Flood must have had to take a temporary leave of absence from his duties of President.
